Setting up your system
A wizard walks you through naming your home, choosing how data is collected, finding your inverter, and describing your battery and panels.
The first time you sign in, Svitgrid asks a series of questions. None of it is permanent — every answer can be changed later in Settings.
Step 1 — Name your home
Anything you like: Home, Dacha, Mum's house. If you look after more than one property, the name is how you tell them apart.
You also pick a picture for the house — a cottage, an apartment block, a ground-mounted array with no building at all. It appears on your dashboard behind the weather.
Step 2 — Where it is
Used for two things: the solar forecast needs to know where the sun will be, and Ukrainian blackout schedules are organised by region.
Let the app use your location, or type the address.
Step 3 — How data is collected
Choose your collector — this is the choice explained in How Svitgrid works.
- This phone — free, works immediately, only collects while you are home with the app open.
- Svitgrid Gateway — a small box that collects 24/7.
- Home Assistant — if you already run it.
Step 4 — Your inverter
Pick the brand, then the model. Svitgrid supports 80 models across 18 brands — see Supported inverters.
Can't find your exact model?
Search the model number printed on the inverter's front label. Many inverters are the same machine sold under different names, and the search box knows those aliases — typing Sunsynk or Easun will find the entry you need even when the brand list does not show that name.
Step 5 — Connecting to the inverter
What Svitgrid needs here depends on the brand. Most commonly it is the inverter's IP address on your home network plus the serial number of the Wi‑Fi logger stick plugged into it. Some brands need neither. See Connecting to your inverter for how to find both.
Svitgrid can usually find the inverter by scanning the network, so try Scan before typing anything.
Step 6 — Battery and panels
Tell Svitgrid what you actually own:
- Battery — chemistry (usually LiFePO4), capacity in kWh, and whether two inverters share one battery bank.
- Panels — how many strings, their total kWp, which way they face and their tilt.
The panel answers feed the solar forecast. Rough numbers are fine; you can correct them later.
Step 7 — Pair the Gateway
Only if you chose the Gateway. Svitgrid finds it over Bluetooth, then asks for your Wi‑Fi name and password so the box can reach the internet on its own. See Svitgrid Gateway.
Step 8 — Check and finish
A summary of everything. Confirm, and the dashboard opens.
Your first readings should appear within a minute or two. If the dashboard sits empty, go straight to Troubleshooting — it is nearly always the IP address or the logger serial.
