Give the logger a fixed IP address

On this page
In short

After a power cut your router can give the Wi-Fi logger a new address, and Svitgrid then loses it. Reserve one address for the logger in your router and this stops happening.

Why the connection breaks

Your router lends every device an address for a while. This is called DHCP. After a power cut or a router restart, it can lend the logger a different address. Svitgrid keeps calling the old one, gets no answer, and the station shows no data even though the inverter is working.

The fix is a DHCP reservation. Some routers call it a static lease or a permanent IP address. The router then gives the logger the same address every time.

Before you start

Open your router's list of connected devices and note two things about the logger:

  • Its IP address, such as 192.168.1.50
  • Its MAC address, six pairs of characters such as A4:CF:12:34:56:78

The logger usually shows up with a name that contains its brand or a long number. If you are not sure which device it is, compare the IP address with the one Svitgrid shows for your inverter.

Reserve the address

Menu names differ between router models and firmware versions. If yours do not match, look for DHCP, Address Reservation or Static lease.

  1. Open tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 and sign in.
  2. Go to Advanced → Network → DHCP Server.
  3. Under Address Reservation, select Add.
  4. Enter the logger's MAC address and IP address, then save.

ASUS

  1. Open router.asus.com or 192.168.50.1 and sign in.
  2. Go to LAN → DHCP Server.
  3. Turn on Enable Manual Assignment.
  4. Pick the logger in the Client Name (MAC Address) list, check the IP address, select +, then Apply.

Keenetic

  1. Open my.keenetic.net and sign in.
  2. Go to Device lists.
  3. Select the logger. If it is under Unregistered devices, register it first.
  4. Turn on Permanent IP address, then save.

Xiaomi

  1. Open miwifi.com or 192.168.31.1 and sign in.
  2. Go to Advanced settings → DHCP static IP assignment.
  3. Select Add, choose the logger, check the IP address, then save.

MikroTik

  1. Open WinBox or the router's web page at 192.168.88.1 and sign in.
  2. Go to IP → DHCP Server → Leases.
  3. Open the logger's lease and select Make Static.

After the reservation

The router applies it the next time the logger asks for an address. To make that happen now, restart the logger, or the inverter if the logger takes its power from it.

If the reserved address is not the one Svitgrid knows, update it in the app: open the inverter, choose Troubleshoot connection, then Scan or Edit IP. The full checklist is in Troubleshooting.

Another router

If your router is another brand or came from your internet provider, look in its LAN or DHCP settings for a reservation, a static lease or a fixed address. Your provider's support line can also set it up for you.
