Power gone or back: a message in Telegram

ED-1 is a ready-made ESP32 device. You plug it in next to your inverter, and Svitgrid messages you in Telegram and on your phone when the grid goes down and when it comes back. No soldering, no firmware to write.

Download on the App StoreGet it on Google Play

Requires an inverter: Svitgrid learns about the grid from it. The app: from $2 a month.

What you get

Grid down

Power is out

A message in Telegram and on your phone. It is an urgent alert, so it arrives during quiet hours too, even at night.

During

Your battery

The app shows the battery charge and the house load while the power is out.

Grid back

Power is back

A second message when the grid returns. Even when you are away from home.

Ahead

Your group's schedule

Where the grid operator publishes a schedule, Svitgrid knows your group's planned outages and warns you in advance.

Three ways to get alerts

ED-1 gateway · for most people

  1. Plug the board into a USB charger next to the inverter
  2. Set it up over Bluetooth in the app
  3. Connect Telegram in the notification settings
999 ₴ + a plan from $2 a month

ED-1.1 · a cable instead of Wi-Fi

  1. When the inverter shares no data over Wi-Fi
  2. A cable into the inverter's RS-485 or RS-232 port
  3. Then the same as ED-1
1400 ₴ + a plan from $2 a month

Home Assistant · no cloud

  1. Install the Svitgrid integration
  2. Choose local mode: your data stays at home
  3. Add your own Telegram bot in the app
No device · alerts are free

Alerts from the Svitgrid cloud are part of the plan. In local mode with Home Assistant, your own bot sends the messages, and that is free.

Building it yourself on an ESP32: what it takes

StepWhat it involvesApproximate time
PartsAn ESP32, a 230 V mains-presence sensor (an optocoupler or a ready module), a power supply, an enclosurea few days of delivery
SafetyThe sensor sits on mains voltage: insulation, a fuse, and an enclosure no hand can reach intoan evening
FirmwareESPHome or your own code: read the sensor and ignore short dipsan evening
Telegram botCreate a bot in BotFather, send messages, and retry when the internet went down with the poweran evening
PowerThe ESP32 and the router must run from a UPS, or the "power is out" message goes nowherean evening
After thatUpdates, outage durations, history, several people in the familyongoing
Total4 evenings or more + delivery

If you have an inverter, it already knows when the grid went down, and you need no 230 V sensor: Svitgrid reads the inverter and messages you. If you have no inverter, your own ESP32 is the right way.

Support

Questions or a problem with your Svitgrid? We're on Telegram.

Write to the Svitgrid group. We read every message and answer fast: the bot sees your station through the diagnostic code from the app, so the conversation starts from data, not from clarifying questions.

We value people who report problems. A confirmed bug earns points, and points pay for your subscription.

Questions

Can I make a power outage alert in Telegram with an ESP32?

Yes. ED-1 is a ready-made ESP32-S3 device. You plug it in next to your inverter, and Svitgrid messages you in Telegram when the power goes out and when it comes back. No soldering, no firmware to write. Without an inverter you would build the ESP32 yourself: what that takes is described above.

Does it work without an inverter?

No. Svitgrid learns about the grid from the inverter. Without one, ED-1 cannot tell whether the power is on.

How much does it cost?

ED-1 costs 999 ₴ and ED-1.1 costs 1400 ₴. Alerts through the Svitgrid cloud are part of a plan from $2 a month. With Home Assistant in local mode, Telegram alerts are free: your own bot sends them.

What if the internet goes down with the power?

Then ED-1 cannot report that the power went out. The router and ED-1 need power during the outage, for example from a UPS.

Will the alert reach me when I am away from home?

Yes. ED-1 or Home Assistant watches the inverter around the clock, so your phone does not need to be at home.

Which inverters does it work with?

Deye, Sunsynk, Victron, Anenji, Edecoa, Sofar, LuxPower and others. The full list is on the Compatibility page.
