LuxPower SNA5000 WPV

Your LuxPower inverter in the app, over a cable, no cloud

The ED-1.1 gateway connects to the inverter's RS-485 port and reads it directly. You do not need the LuxPower cloud, its Wi-Fi dongle, or its account, and history records 24/7.

The app: from $2 a month.

No installer code needed

The LuxPower app asks for an installer code when you register a Wi-Fi dongle in the LuxPower cloud. The ED-1.1 uses neither the dongle nor the cloud: it reads the inverter by itself, over a cable. So Svitgrid needs no code, no account, and no dongle registration.

During connection, the app finds the inverter on the cable by itself and reads its serial number.

How to connect

On older SNA5000 WPV units labelled "MPPT485", RS-485 comes out only on the HDMI-shaped "WIFI" port, where the dongle plugs in. We connect the ED-1.1 to it through an HDMI → RJ-45 adapter: the adapter goes into the "WIFI" port, and a network cable runs from its RJ-45 socket to the gateway. The dongle comes out while the ED-1.1 runs: the port serves only one poller, so the dongle and the gateway cannot work on it together.

HDMI pin 15 → gateway pin 2

This is the inverter's A+ line.

HDMI pin 14 → gateway pin 1

This is the inverter's B− line.

HDMI pin 16 → gateway pin 3

Ground. HDMI pin 18 (+5 V, which powers the dongle) stays unconnected, and so do the gateway power pins 4 and 5. The full diagram is on the RJ-45 pinout page.

The cards above show which pins must connect. HDMI → RJ-45 adapters from different manufacturers wire the pins differently, so if you build the connection yourself, compare it with these cards. If the inverter does not answer, swap A and B: that does no harm. According to the documentation, newer SNA5000 WPV units labelled "MPPT485/CT" have RS-485 on an RJ-45 socket, pins 7 and 8, but we have not checked this yet. Not sure about the wires? Send a photo of both cable ends on Telegram, and we will check.

What this gives you

Direct, no cloud

The gateway reads the inverter in your home, over the Modbus RTU protocol. The data does not pass through LuxPower servers.

Fast and stable

One poll takes about 130 ms. In a test run, the inverter answered 183 of 183 requests.

When the internet goes down

If the internet goes down for a short time, the board holds the readings and sends them as soon as the connection comes back.

History without gaps

The gateway records data 24/7, so the chart for any day has no holes.

What to know in advance

Read-only

Svitgrid shows LuxPower data but does not change the inverter settings yet. You keep setting modes and charging on the inverter itself.

Battery and load

We have not yet compared battery and household load readings on an inverter with a battery. If something looks strange, write to us, and we will look into it.

Without a battery, it shuts down with the grid

A standalone inverter without a battery shuts down when the grid goes down. During that time, the station shows as offline in the app.

LuxPower LXP and EG4 hybrids cannot be read over a cable to the ED-1.1 yet. You can connect them through Home Assistant or a phone, but we have not checked this on a real inverter yet. Another LuxPower model? Write to us on Telegram.

Questions from LuxPower owners

Which app works with LuxPower inverters?

Besides the LuxPower app, the SNA5000 WPV works with Svitgrid, an app for Android and iPhone. It needs the ED-1.1 gateway, which reads the inverter over an RS-485 cable, with no LuxPower cloud or Wi-Fi dongle. The port serves only one poller, so the dongle comes out while the ED-1.1 runs, and Svitgrid only reads the inverter for now.

The LuxPower app asks for an installer code. Where do I get it?

Svitgrid does not need it. The installer code registers a Wi-Fi dongle in the LuxPower cloud, and the ED-1.1 reads the inverter over a cable, with no dongle and no cloud. If you still want to use the LuxPower app, the seller, the installer, or LuxPower support gives you the code for the inverter serial number. But then the dongle takes the port, and you cannot connect the ED-1.1 to it.

Can I keep the Wi-Fi dongle and add the ED-1.1 next to it?

No. The RS-485 port can have only one poller, so it is either the dongle or the ED-1.1.

Can I control a LuxPower from the app?

Not yet. Svitgrid reads the SNA5000 WPV but does not change its settings.

I have a different LuxPower inverter. Will it work?

Over a cable to the ED-1.1, only the SNA5000 WPV can be read so far. You can connect LuxPower LXP and EG4 hybrids through Home Assistant or a phone, but we have not checked this on a real inverter yet.

The app does not find the inverter on the cable. What now?

Most often A and B are swapped. Swap the wires on HDMI pins 14 and 15, check that the ground on pin 16 is connected, and tap search again.

Do I need an installer?

No. The HDMI → RJ-45 adapter goes into the inverter's "WIFI" port, and a network cable runs from it to the gateway. The gateway runs from a USB charger, and setup takes a few minutes in the app.

Where do I get an HDMI → RJ-45 adapter?

We can send it together with the ED-1.1. Say so in the order note.
